Full description

From 1 July 2009 the Land and Property Management Authority was established under the Public Sector Employment and Management (Departmental Amalgamations) Order 2009. It formed a division of the Department of Services, Technology and Administration. It was responsible to the Minister for Finance, the Minister for the Hunter, the Minister for Lands and the Minister for Rural Affairs. (1)

The Land and Property Management Authority combined the functions of the former Department of Lands [III] and the Office of the State Property Authority. (2) Staff formerly employed in the Department of Planning to enable the Hunter Development Corporation to exercise its functions were transferred to the Land and Property Management Authority. The Office of Biofuels was removed from the Department of State and Regional Development and added to the Authority. Staff principally involved in the administration of the Lake Illawarra Authority Act 1987 were also removed from the Department of Environment and Climate Change and added to the Authority. (3) In addition those staff in the Office of Strategic Lands in the Department of Planning who were required in connection with the Land and Property Management Authority were removed from that Department and added to the Land and Property Management Authority. (4)

From 19 March 2010 the Land and Property Management Authority ceased to be a division of the Department of Services, Technology and Administration. The Authority became a division of the Department of Planning. (5) Certain corporate and shared services staff from the Land and Property Management Authority required in connection with the Department of Planning and the Department of Services, Technology and Administration were removed to those departments. (6) The Office of Rural Affairs was also removed from the Land and Property Management Authority and added to the Department of Industry and Investment. The Authority then ceased to report to the Minister for Rural Affairs. (7)

The Land and Property Management Authority was abolished on 4 April 2011. All the Authority's branches were removed and were added to the Principal Department, the Department of Finance and Services. (8)
