Created a Road District, 3rd March, 1863, Proclaimed a Shire, 22nd December, 1871 Re-subdivided, 28th May, 1958, Proclaimed a City 29th April, 1961.On 15 December 1994, the City of Keilor was abolished. The eastern section was merged with Essendon to form the City of Moonee Valley, and the western section was merged with parts of Sunshine (including St Albans) to form the City of Brimbank VA 3675.
