This series of paper-based records is the first of two series of general correspondence of J M (Malcolm) Fraser, maintained while he was Leader of the Opposition (March-November 1975). It covers the period from March to late August, but includes some earlier papers and a very small number of later ones. The files and the papers within them are arranged alphabetically by name of correspondent. They include representations from companies, small businesses, professional associations, church and other community organisations and the related replies. Some personal letters from friends and colleagues are also included. The correspondence covers a wide range of subjects, many relating to Whitlam Labor Government policies and legislation (e.g. Corporations and Securities Industry Bill 1975), as well as submissions and reports on major issues, company and other publications, news cuttings etc. It also includes congratulatory telegrams and letters relating to Fraser's election as Leader of the Opposition.
