Brief description
The Australian Gazetteer service provides authoritative information on the location, and spelling of approved place names. The Australian Gazetteer is a subset of information held by the relevant State, Territory and Commonwealth naming authorities. Additional authoritative information has also been sourced from the Australian Hydrographic Service, Australian Antarctic Division and Geoscience Australia.Lineage
Statement: The Australian Gazetteer provides map-makers and the public with authoritative information on the location and spelling of approved place names. The place names in this Gazetteer are a subset of the complete information sets held by each of the relevant agencies. For example, the full dataset held by the Geographical Names Board of NSW contains information on the history of a name and its derivation.text: westlimit=45; southlimit=-80; eastlimit=169; northlimit=-9; projection=GDA94 (EPSG:4283)
