Full description
On 1 July 2009 the Department of Justice and Attorney General was established as one of thirteen Principal Departments of the Public Service under the Public Sector Employment and Management (Departmental Amalgamations) Order 2009. The Department of Justice and Attorney General was responsible to the portfolios of Attorney General and Corrective Services. (1)All branches of the former Attorney General's Department and the former Department of Corrective Services were added to the Department of Justice and Attorney General. (2) Also the groups of staff in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Office of the Legal Aid Commission who were principally involved in the provision of corporate services and who were required in connection with the Department of Justice and Attorney General were removed from those Offices and added to the Department of Justice and Attorney General. (3)
From 4 April 2011 the name of the Department of Justice and Attorney General was changed to the Department of Attorney General and Justice [II]. The Department became one of nine Principal Departments. The Department of Attorney General and Justice [II] was responsible to the Attorney General and the Minister for Justice. (4)
