Full description

The Dairy Industry Authority Act, 1970 assented to 8 April 1970, (1) repealed the Milk Act 1931 (Act No. 59, 1931) and also the Dairies Supervision Act, 1901. Under the new legislation, milk produced in New South Wales for either human consumption or for the manufacture of dairy products was vested in the Dairy Industry Authority, which commenced on 1 July 1970 (2). The Act also constituted a Dairy Industry Artificial Breeding Board. In addition to undertaking the functions of the Milk Board, the Authority established a Dairy Industry Prices Tribunal to recommend prices for milk and milk products.

Subsequently, the Dairy Industry Marketing Authority Act, 1979, assented to 24 December 1979, (3) established the Dairy Industry Marketing Authority, which undertook the previous Authority's functions, with the exception of the Dairy Industry Prices Tribunal which became the Dairy Industry Pricing Committee.
