The CSIRO, Division of Chemicals and Polymers, Currency Note Research and Development Project Guide to Records documents and contextualised the records of the project that was developed with an aim to combat forgery of bank note, that led to the development of plastic banknotes. The collection documented in the Guide comprises of 1032 inventory items, mostly paper format files. These items are grouped into 15 series and cover reports, correspondence, artefacts, samples, photographs, plans and diagrams, and records of experiments relating to the development of plastic banknotes, carried out by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) Division of Applied Organic Chemistry, later the Division of Chemicals and Polymers. The total collection occupies 572 linear cm of shelf space (or its equivalent). The Guide is the output of a research database. It was first produced in paper format by the Australian Science Archives Project in 1991. It was later published online by the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre in June 2004. The records were deposited with the Victorian Branch of the Australian Archives, now the National Archives of Australia. The collection was listed by Roderick Buchanan, Gavan McCarthy and Oscar Manhal.Data time period: 1991
