These certificates record the name, address, date and place of birth, and the signature of the holder; the running number of the certificate; date and place of the examination; and the date and port of issue.

There are also copies of certificates previously granted, and reissued on the loss of the original including a few certificates originally issued by the Department of Navigation but reissued after its functions were taken over by the Maritime Services Board in 1936.
