Narrandera Shire Council was constituted on 1 January 1960 from the unification of Yanko Shire and the Narrandera Municipality. The former Councils of these areas were dissolved and the new Council was formed with 12 councillors. (1)

Effective 1 January 1961 part of Narrandera Shire was removed from the area and added to Leeton Shire. (2)

At the dissolution of the Barellan Urban Committee on 22 February 1961, all assets, rights and liabilities were transferred to the Council. (3)

Narrandera Shire was divided into two ridings (A and B) on 23 March 1962 - one comprising the former Narrandera Municipality and the other the former Yanco Shire. (4)

The Shire had been administered by a provisional council since its constitution on 1 January 1960. On 1 December 1962, the first Council election was held. (5)

The ridings of Narrandera Shire were abolished on 20 July 1983. (6)

It was declared from 14 June 1991 that the number of councillors be altered from 12 to 9 effective from the next ordinary election of Council. (7)
