Full description

The Commission of Inquiry into Electricity Generation and Planning in NSW was established at the direction of the Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy on 16 May 1985 under the Energy Authority Act, 1976. Mr Gavan John McDonell was appointed Commissioner and was authorised by the Energy Authority of New South Wales to conduct an inquiry pursuant to Section 27 of the Energy Authority Act, into the long-term power station development plans and coal resource requirements of the Electricity Commission of New South Wales. The Commissioner was to examine and report on the following matters:
A recommended generation development plan including the size, type, location and timing of future projects, and the retention or release of existing and planned sites;
The appropriateness of current procedures for generation planning and site bank reservation including provision for public consultation; and
Guidelines for determining the most appropriate allocation of coal resources to meet the Electricity Commission’s long-term needs. The Inquiry produced the following three reports:

Planning, Process and the Public (June 1986)
Planning, Resources, Priorities (June 1986)
