Full description
The Surveyor General's Department was formed on 2 January 1998 by the merger of the Office of Surveyor General and the Land Information Centre. (1)
The Department was responsible for mapping, geographic information and surveying in New South Wales. (2) The focus of the Department was the delivery of spatial information services to meet the state, regional, whole of government and community requirements. (3)
The Surveyor General was an ex-officio member of the Board of Surveyors and a member of the Geographic Names Board.
The Surveyor General's Department was abolished as a department on 8 April 1999, when branches of the Department were added to the Department of Information, Technology and Management. (4)
It appears likely that the entity continued to operate until 1 July 2000 when its Department combined with the Valuer General's Department, the Land Titles Office and the Land Information Centre to form Land and Property Information New South Wales.
