(1) This Act dissolved the Metropolitan Meat Industry Board [I], and transferred the powers, authorities, duties, and functions of the Board to the Commissioner. (2)

Under the provisions of the Meat Industry Act, No 69, 1915, these powers consisted of:
* maintenance and control of abattoirs and slaughterhouses, saleyards and markets within the County of Cumberland,
* provision for the selling, exporting, and otherwise dealing with products derived from abattoir operations, and
* the right to regulate entry into the Metropolitan Meat Industry area of all meat slaughtered elsewhere. (3)

The Governor was empowered to appoint a person to be the Metropolitan Meat Industry Commissioner (4), excluding any person directly or indirectly involved in the meat industry. (5) The Commissioner was required to attend all meetings of the Metropolitan Meat Industry Advisory Council, and provide the Council with all information at his disposal as may be required. (6)

The office of the Metropolitan Meat Industry Commissioner was abolished by the Meat Industry (Amendment) Act, 1950 (Act No.24, 1950), which established the Metropolitan Meat Industry Board [II]. (7)
