VPRS 8066 Record of Officers and Warders' Names and Particulars

Full description

This series consists of a record of names and particulars of officers and warders at H.M. Gaol Sandhurst [Bendigo] (VA 940).

The single volume extant was maintained between 1851 and 1939. A single folio (i.e. two pages) was used to record the following particulars, for each person:
- date of appointment
- office appointed to
- year of birth
- height
- birth place
- whether married or single
- trade or calling
- religion
- rate of pay
- remarks
- when received at the gaol
- offences etc (including details of transfer or death)
- Leave of Absence details.

The above particulars were not always completed and it is evident that more details were usually recorded in the earlier period of the volume's use.

An alphabetical index to officers/warders which gives the name and folio number within the volume is located at the start of the volume, however, it only indexes the volume to folio 60 (up to 1895).

At the back of the volume some details are recorded regarding Warders Assurance Policies for the period 1887 to 1889.
