This series includes sets of examination papers given and written examination papers from candidates  for mine managers, also including deputy and under managers set by the Board of Examiners for Mine Managers.

Examinations were set for a variety of topics including mine organisation and accounts, coal mining law, surveying, mining geology, arithmetic, machinery and surface work among others.

These papers were found at the Department of Industry, Technology and Resources in 1986 during a major disposal project. This series is likely incomplete as there are a number of years for which there are no papers. It is also unclear whether the papers held in this series for any given year is also complete.
