This series comprises files recording landowners’ compensation claims in relation to land acquisitions made by the Tambo Water Board (VA 5681).

The files were created as per the Land Acquisition and Compensation Act 1986. The main purposes of this Act were— (a) to establish a new procedure for the acquisition of land for public purposes; and (b) to provide for the determination of the compensation payable in respect of land so acquired.

In accordance with the legislation, the Board was required to provide a notice of intention to acquire the specified land, except in defined circumstances.  Landowners had a claim to compensation with respect to acquisitions. These files are the records relating to those land acquisitions.
