This series consists of wages books recording the amount of fortnightly wages received by employees of the Tramway Department of the Electric Supply Company of Victoria, Ballarat, for the period 1909 to 1934. The occupations of the employees listed in these wages books includes painters, trackmen, car cleaners, labourers, inspectors and so on. Drivers (called motormen) and conductors do not generally appear in these wages books but instead appear in a separate set of wages books from the Tramway Traffic Department (VPRS 20627).
In addition to recording individual wages, the purpose of the record also appears to have an accounting function, to allocate costs performed by each individual to particular budget lines.
