The dates of the plans’ creation are approximate only. Handwritten additions, usually names of those buried in the cemetery, are present on the plans, but it is unknown as to when these were added.  Some plans were created by government printer J.J. Gourley. Full description

This series consists of linen divisional plans of the Smythesdale Cemetery (VA 5070). The Smythesdale Cemetery was divided into sections to reflect the religious denominations of the 1860s goldfields.

The plans show the locations of graves for each section of the cemetery, including burial plots reserved for the Church of England, Presbyterian Church, Roman Catholic Church and the Wesleyan Methodist Church.
 
The information recorded on the plans includes the location of burial plots, an identifying number assigned to each burial plot, and where the plot is occupied, the surname of the occupant/s.
