Full description

This series consists of register of inward correspondence of the Explosives and Gas Examining Branch of the Chief Secretary's Department and its successor agencies.

The register was used to allocate unique identification numbers (registration numbers) to each letter received and to record summary details regarding the management of the correspondence. Each inward letter was, on receipt, allocated an annual single number with an alpha prefix (eg., 'E' for Explosives) from the register.

The register records in a column format:
- registration number
- day and month received
- name of the sender
- subject content of the letter
- other correspondence
- how disposed of.
