The Standards Council of the Teaching Profession is a statutory body of the Victorian Government. It provides advice to the Minister and the Director about matters relating to professional standards for members of the teaching service. Specifically the Council provides advice on :
minimum standards of academic qualifications and teacher training for entry to the teaching service,
criteria for the initial appointment and probation of teachers,
criteria for promotion,
professional development needs,
the evaluation of teacher education courses
The minutes of Council meetings reflect these functions and responsibilities. Contents of the minutes include the date of meeting, agenda notices, names of members in attendance at the meeting and apologies from those not attending, endorsement of minutes from the previous meeting, reports of briefings presented to the Council, particularly the Chairpersons report, matters arising from the minutes, and action taken on such matters, information regarding Working Parties of the Council, dates of next meeting, and any relevant attachments for Councils consideration - reports, drafts, briefings to the Minister or Director, budget information, press releases, and more.
Notice of Working Party meetings and reports and recommendations of Working Parties to the Council, also appear amongst these records.
