Brief description

This dataset contains records of vascular plant species from the Biological Survey of South Australia. Preparation from raw data obtained via AEKOS involved the selection of data fields, the removal of intraspecific taxa (only genus and species used to define individual taxa) and removal of duplicate records and those not determined to species.

Lineage

Data Creation
AEKOS Data Portal Extraction: Method: The data was extracted via the AEKOS Data Portal (www.aekos.org.au/home) on 7 July 2014. The entire content of this dataset contains records of vascular plant species from the Biological Survey of South Australia - Vegetation Survey, Biological Database of South Australia. The data were extracted using the following search string: Free Text free text search of '"biological survey"' AND Custodian Organisation is Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, South Australia. Preparation from raw data involved the selection of data fields, the removal of intraspecific taxa (only genus and species used to define individual taxa) and removal of duplicate records and those not determined to species.

Notes

Credit
We at TERN acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia, New Zealand and all nations. We honour their profound connections to land, water, biodiversity and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Purpose
A georeferenced implementation of weighted endemism. Development of weighted endemism calculations and mapping in the R environment, using alternative methods for estimating species ranges. This dataset was used to test functions and compare the results among methods. Identifying spatial hotspots of vegetation biodiversity, fragmentation and climate sensitivity as conservation targets. A largely empirical project aiming to identify areas (in South Australia) with high biodiversity values and their intersection with threatening processes at regional scales. Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, South Australia, TERN (Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network).
