Brief description

This collection contains one netCDF file and one Geopackage file of extreme value water level statistics computed from the SCHSIM-WWMIII Vanuatu hindcast (https://doi.org/10.25919/gqdd-jc07) and NextGen Pacific sea level rise projections (https://doi.org/10.25919/hexz-1r10) as part of the VanKIRAP project.

For 2331 coastal points around Vanuatu, the following variables are provided:
- latitude
- longitude
- node index
- depth
- 117 extreme value statistics variables as follows:

Extreme value statistics: 10 year (from SCHISM-WWMIII hindcast), 50 and 100 year (from SLR projections) return interval water levels, with lower and upper bounds for confidence intervals for each, for "baseline" (1980-2020), and future 20 year time slices (centred on 2030, 2050, 2070 and 2090) under low, mid and high-end emissions scenarios RCP2.5, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 respectively.

All total water level (TWL) variables in this dataset are referenced to a vertical datum reference of mean sea level (MSL), defined by Noumea and Port Vila tide gauge observations for years 1990-1996 (a period of relatively low ENSO variability).

Lineage: SCHISM-WWMIII v5.9 output generated on NCI HPC Gadi, June 2023, by Jared Ortiz-Angulo Cantos (University of Cantabria) for CSIRO as part of the VanKIRAP project under direction of Vanessa Hernaman (CSIRO) using her model grid and configuration.

Output created by SCHISM post-processor combine_output11.exe.

Combined data post processed to extract relevant model variables (zos, hs, t01, t02, tp, u0, v0, dp, spr & dp_rad) via Python notebook and written to monthly files by Ron Hoeke (CSIRO).

Metadata rewritten by metadata_handling_and_addition.py on CSIRO HPC Petrichor to adhere to CF, ACDD and UGRID conventions by Bryan Hally (CSIRO), December 2023.

Regional sea level projections produced by Xuebin Zhang as part of the IPCC (2019) Special Report on Oceans and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC); presented in the "Nextgen" Projections for the Western Tropical Pacific (2021).

Extreme Value Analysis of water levels performed in Python by Ron Hoeke on CSIRO's Petrichor.
