Research Project
Full description In 2017, the University of Queensland Library ran a project to examine the accessibility of 16 ebook platforms available to students and staff through the Library. Each platform was tested in two ways: first, by a sighted person, using the Jisc Ebook Accessibility Audit form; and second, by employing two research technicians who are blind, to test how the same books performed with two types of screenreader software, NVDA and VoiceOver. Sections of the testing were filmed so that they could be shared with the publishers and vendors, and for demonstration purposes. The aim of the project was to gather information to enable the Library to prefer more accessible platforms in purchasing ebooks, in order to fulfill a goal of the UQ Disability Action Plan 2016-2018, namely: "Seek preferred suppliers and publishers who provide learning resources and publications in various accessible formats."
