Full description The Profiles of Individual Radicalisation in Australia (PIRA) database captures information on individuals, residing in Australia, who have radicalised to extremism from 1985 to 2023. PIRA collects data on individuals who have engaged in a variety of ideologically motivated behaviours across the ideological spectrum. Utilising open-source information, qualitative and quantitative data are collected across 123 variables related to demographical, individual background, ideological affiliation, group dynamics, and contextual information, and closely replicates the Profiles of Individual Radicalisation in the United States (PIRUS) database. PIRA was created to enable empirical investigation into the risk factors, life histories, and behavioural patterns of individuals who were radicalised in the Australian context. The development of the PIRA dataset was supported by an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship project (FT170100061). Data collection commenced in 2017 and has now been finalised for public release.
