Full description
The Museum of Ancient Cultures at Macquarie University, Sydney, holds some 700 papyri, mainly in Greek, but also in other languages and scripts, such as Demotic and Coptic (Egyptian). Most are written on papyrus, but the collection also includes some texts on ostraca (potsherd), parchment, and wood. Most of the texts date from the 3rd century BC to the 8th century AD. The Museum's many Greek texts are mostly written on papyrus, but there are also some on ostraca.
