Through this project, construction sector policy makers have the opportunity to create improvements and enhancing the likelihood of economic, social and environmental sustainability through strategic guidance to the Gold Coast construction industry. To enhance accountability and performance in the building industry this research is aimed at scrutinising current construction practices.. However there has been limited application and little or no measurement to monitor successful implementation of sustainable construction principles in South East Queensland. Often purchasing policies have been developed with sound strategic procurement principles but these have had limited effect on the current processes and practices of service providers. This research documents an action research study is undertaken in the South East corner Queensland’s construction sector and aims to explore; what is current practice, what could be changed and new policy implementation to improve the sectors environmental performance.
