The drawings were arranged under an alpha-numeric system.The P2 consignment (PTC Series 466) consists of folders containing drawings of mechanical interlocking signals and signal layout for metropolitan and country railway. The folders were arranged alphabetically by geographic location or place name i.e. drawings for Geelong, Glenrowan were filed within a folder marked G. Full description

This series comprised drawings created by the Signal Division, Way and Works Branch (1915 to 1922), Signal and Telegraph Branch (1922 to 1933), Way and Works Branch (1933 to 1983) of Victorian Railways VA 2876. The Signals and Communications Department of the State Transport Authority (STA) VA 1038 became responsible for the design and construction of communications and signal system for STA (including Metropolitan Train Division, MRD).

The Division was responsible for the maintenance and construction of railway telephones, telegraph, signalling, safe working and interlocking apparatus through the State, light and power installations outside the electrified area and other allied work.
