Full description

Marine sediment and geophysical data were collected during the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator voyage IN2023_V01, titled “Antarctic Bottom Water production in the past: Records from marine sediments, Cape Darnley, East Antarctica.” The voyage was conducted between 25 January and 2 March 2023 (AEST), departing from Fremantle and returning to Hobart, with operations focused in the Cape Darnley region of East Antarctica.

The primary objective of the voyage was to reconstruct past Antarctic Bottom Water production using geological records preserved in marine sediments. Data collected include measurements from kasten and piston sediment cores, supporting sedimentological and geophysical analyses relevant to paleoceanographic and paleoclimate research.

These datasets contribute to improved understanding of sedimentary processes and deep-water formation in the Southern Ocean and are made discoverable through linked national data repositories and this archive.
