Brief description

Seedling surveys were conducted at the Robson Creek Rainforest site between 2010 - 2011. The identity and height of all seedlings were recorded along 98 x 20 m transects.

Lineage

Seedling transects at the Samford Peri-Urban site commenced in 2010. Seedlings were surveyed along 98 X 20 m transects. Seedling position was mapped using a simple x-y coordinate system, with the x-coordinate being the distance along the 20 m tape measure, and the y-coordinate being the distance perpendicular (to the east) from the tape. Both coordinates were rounded to nearest 5 cm. All seedlings were assigned two sets of coordinates; ‘line coordinates’ (x’s 0 - 20 m, y’s 0 - 1 m) and ‘plot coordinates’ (x’s 0 – 500 m,y’s 0 – 500 m). Seedling height ( from the highest leaf to the ground directly below) family, genus and species for all seedlings were measured and recorded. Herbarium specimens or detailed notes were taken to identify plants that could not immediately be identified in the field. Specimens are held by Pete Green at the Department of Botany at La Trobe University.

Credit
We at TERN acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians throughout Australia, New Zealand and all nations. We honour their profound connections to land, water, biodiversity and culture and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Purpose
The aim of the Seedling Survey was to document the diversity and patterns of relative species abundances from a sample of seedlings.
