Full description

This register contains a summary record of all Crown Leases in the Land District of Narrandera kept by the Narrandera Lands Office.

This tenure was introduced in 1912 under the Crown Lands (Amendment) Act. It was created to take the place of the Settlement Lease tenure, as a lease for grazing lands with no right of conversion to purchase, though conversion rights were later granted in 1917.

The term of the lease was 45 years. Under the conditions of the lease, the lessee was required to permanently reside on the land within six months of taking up the lease, clear the land of noxious weeds and pests (in particular, rabbits and prickly pear), and fence the external boundaries within the first five years.

The register records information such as the year and number of the Crown Lease, the names and addresses of applicants and transferees, legal date of the application, date of confirmation, term of the lease, date of the letter notifying registration of transfer at Head Office, description of the land applied for, payments made, including survey fee, rent, and interest on late payments, the date of payment is also recorded, and the value of any improvements.
