The first volume, distinguishing between male and female convict ships, shows: date of arrival; name of ship; whence sailed; number of convicts - embarked, died or escaped during voyage, and landed; and the annual standing numbers allocated to the prisoners. Although it was probably meant to be a register of the numbers given the prisoners off various vessels, it also serves as an index to arrival dates. An occasional reference to a Col. Sec.
