At each site, 3 replicate belt transects (32 x 0.6 m), separated by approximately 10 to 15 m were haphazardly placed along each of three depth contours (1, 3 and 6 m below the reef flat).Each coral colony (hard or soft) wholly or partly in each transect was recorded. Species (or if not known, genus and growth form) and maximum lateral dimension were recorded.
