The Psychosurgery Review Board (PRB) commenced in 1987 and was an independent tribunal that decided whether psychosurgery should be performed on a person. The role of the PRB was to determine applications made by psychiatrists for a neurosurgeon to perform psychosurgery on a person.The PRB was established by s56 of the Mental Health Act 1986. The PRB and the Mental Health Review Board (VA 2932) ceased in 2014 prior to the commencement of the Mental Health Act 2014 which established the Mental Health Tribunal (VA 5021). The Mental Health Tribunal commenced operations on 1 July 2014.
