The Valuer General is the government's authority on statutory valuations. He has roles and responsibilities under various Acts of Parliament including the Valuation of Land Act 1960 and the Local Government Act 1989.
The Valuer-General and his staff at Valuer-General (VGV), oversee valuations for State Government property transactions and the making and return of council rating valuations. VGV also values government assets so departments and agencies can complete their financial reporting requirements.
The Valuer General maintains a database on rateable properties across Victoria.
