Full description

These files were prepared by the Unit for every prisoner who received a gaol sentence of one year or more. This was done prior to the commencement of the sentence for use by the Classification Committee in determining the prisoner's status and placement.

All of the files contain the following information: results of formal tests which assess achievements and personality; summaries of the tests by a psychologist; a life history written by the prisoner (incorporating employment needs, problems etc.) and a copy of the committal warrant. Many of the files contain additional information (added to the file later) such as the Classification Committee's decision; reports from Psychology Units of regional gaols sent prior to parole, visiting psychiatrists' reports and Psychology Unit records of earlier convictions.
