Research Project
Full description Comparing situation awareness in mining systems with different levels of automation. The proposed research aims to provide insights and comparing situation awareness in a mining system with different levels of automation. Advanced technologies, robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles, and remote-controlled operational systems will be expanded to improve operations in the mining industry. In this context, issues such as a lack of understanding of the dynamics of the automation processes, a passive role in control rooms, and overreliance on automation linked to lower situation awareness become relevant to investigate to assure safety in the automation implementation in the mining industry. The key objectives are to: 1. Develop an in-depth understanding of automation in the mining industry, considering a holistic point of view. 2. Examine and evaluate the existing approaches for measuring situation awareness in complex sociotechnical systems. 3. Develop a SA approach suitable for measuring in mining systems with different levels of automation.
