Full description
Applications for liquor licenses under An Act to remodel the law relating to publicans and other persons engaged in the sale of liquor, 1881 (45 Victoria Act No 14) and subsequent Acts were to be accompanied by a plan or sketch of the premises. The plans which comprise this series are largely architects' plans of proposed hotels, and major and minor alterations and additions to existing hotels submitted for approval to NSW Licensing Courts in the Sydney Metropolitan District.
The plans are arranged alphabetically by suburb (including an entry for Sydney city), and then alphabetically by hotel name. Information detailed on the plans varies but usually includes name of hotel, locality - town or suburb and street name(s), name of applicant or owner, name of architect, date and scale of plan, type of plan - floor plan, section and elevations, site plan, or details of proposed additions or alterations, and date of approval if given. Many are coloured, using water colour tints, although there are also non-coloured pen drawn plans and a few blueprints.
Plans of hotels which have no names listed have been placed at the end of the relevant city or suburb, followed by plans of hotels with unknown addresses.
