The series comprises architects' plans for proposed hotels, and plans for alterations and additions to existing hotels, that were submitted for approval to the Newcastle Licensing Court, which covered Newcastle city and suburbs.
The plans include elevations, sections, and floor plans. Many are coloured, using water colour tints, although there are also non-coloured pen drawn plans and a few blueprints. Most plans include details of the name of the hotel, its location, name of the architects, type of plan, scale, and date.
The plans are arranged alphabetically by town, and then alphabetically by hotel name. Plans of hotels with no names are placed at the end of the town entries, and plans of hotels in unidentified locations are at the end of the entire listing.
