These papers contain two sets of depositions taken against Joseph Wilkes upon charges of murder (one said to have been committed in the year 1853 and three others in 1855). They relate to the charges of murder: of Mary Ann Adelaide Wilkes (his daughter) in 1853; of Honor Wilkes (his wife) in 1855; of David Joseph Wilkes (his son) in 1855; and, of William John Wilkes (his son) in 1855.

Documents include an annotated copy of "Second Progress Report from a Select Committee on the Administration of Justice and conduct of official business in Country Districts with reference to the petitions of Joseph Wilkes, Cornelius Delohery and Thomas Abbot, together with Proceedings of the Committee, minutes of Evidence and Appendix".
