Full description

These volumes chiefly relate to lots offered for sale (usually in auction and after auction sales) . Many of the lots appear to have been later withdrawn from sale. A circular dated 18 October 1878 to all Crown Land Agents (pasted into the front of the first volume) notes that all lots not bid for at sales are to be withdrawn from sale and that this instruction is to apply to relevant lots offered at previous as well as future sales.

Each volume is arranged in sections by county, the counties being in no apparent order. Within each county, entries are chronological, and give the following details: date of proclamation, date of sale, number of lot, situation, quantity, price per acre, purchase price, purchasers (name and residence), date of selection, and remarks.

No shelf list has been prepared at this stage because of the complex arrangement of the volumes. Entries for the County of Camden in vol.3, for example, range from 1858-1861, while entries for Buller in the same volume cover 1861-1879. Because of the large number of counties in New South Wales, entries for all of them could not be contained in one volume. Thus, vol.4 contains entries for counties not represented in vol.3, but which were continued from vols.1 and 2. The first volume only (9/805A) contains an index to purchasers' names.
