Full description
These volumes contain almost the whole of the outward correspondence of the Civil Service Board. The exception is the missing volume containing copies of letters sent between 14 March 1894, and the Board's dissolution in 1896. The letters are addressed to Government Departments, and individuals. They cover all aspects of the functions of the Board with the exception of formal letters dealing with the classification of officers in 1885 and possibly other formal letters of acknowledgement - copies of letters. The first volume (6/8) contains only a few letters mainly regarding the preliminary meetings held in 1884 (before the Civil Service Act, 1884 came into force). There are also a few letters dealing with the actual business of the Board, and an unsigned, undated memorandum on the Superannuation Fund which also deals with the broad problems of the Board and the failings of the Act of 1884.
(6/8-13). 6 vols.
