This volume comprises abstract and acquittances of the salaries and allowances of the persons employed in the construction of the Dry Dock, Cockatoo Island. The account gives name, position, date of appointment (in monthly statements), rate of payment, and signature of employee acknowledging payment.The employees listed are: Civil Engineer, Clerk of Works, Draftsman, Foreman of Engineers, four Foremen of Works, Task Work Clerk, and from January 1855, a Clerk to the Dry Dock (paid monthly), a boiler maker, blacksmith, and two boatsmen (paid fortnightly).
Work on the Dry Dock commenced in 1847, and the first vessel, the HMS Herald, was docked there in 1857.
