Letters to the Board appealing against decisions regarding the demolition of or alteration to buildings etc., together with copies of replies by the City Building Surveyor or the Board. The series also includes some plans and minutes of evidence taken at hearings.

Correspondence concerning each appeal has been placed in a folder, on the cover of which is given the date of the appeal, the date it was dealt with by the Board, the building or structure, its situation, the appellant, and the owner or occupant, and has been allocated a running number.

Other copies of letters sent by the Board concerning appeals are included in the series Copies of letters sent - general, 1879-90 (4/6900).
