Full description

These registers are officially known as the Registers of Assignments and Other Legal Instruments. The register was proclaimed in 1802 but allowed people to register assignments and other legal instruments which dated back to 1794. The nine registers record land and other transactions from 22 January 1794 to 15 May 1824.

These registers show registration number, names of parties and nature of agreement. From Register 5 more complete details of agreements are given (many in full).

These volumes became known as the 'Old Register'. The original volumes remained under the control of Land and Property Information, being subsequently transferred as State archives.

On 20 October 2008 the then NSW Department of Lands with State Records NSW released digital copies of all the volumes in this series in DVD format titled 'Old Register One to Nine'. The DVD also includes an index compiled by Lois Sabine.
