Initially manuscript copies, later letterpress copies, dealing with enquiries from Clerks of Petty Sessions; reports to Under Secretary for Land and Under Colonial Secretary; and other government agencies. The letters to Clerks of Petty Sessions are indexed under the name of their district or town.

Other, less formalised, communications concern the running of the Barracks and the Quarantine Station; disposal of orphans and incapacitated migrants; charges against ships' officers; return of surgeons' journals etc.
