This volume is a record of inspections of the Hospital by the Inspector General of Mental Hospitals, as required under the provisions of Part VI Section 69 of the Lunacy Act of 1878, and subsequent enactments. These inspections record such matters as: examination of books, behaviour of patients, water supply and conditions in the Hospital, facilities available, and information concerning the inmates. The later inspections mainly record statistical information about patients; namely, number of patients admitted, discharged or transferred to Rabbit Island; patients under restraint (sex, method, number of hours); patients in seclusion (why, sex, number of hours); and for patients who had died, causes of death. 

The volume also includes loose "General Regulations as to the Engagement of Attendants, Nurses and Servants".
