Full description
This file consists of papers dealing with the administration of a bequest made by an inmate of Newington Asylum whose will directed that, after funeral expenses had been paid, the interest on the balance of the estate should be used to provide extra tea and sugar for the inmates. The papers are mostly of a routine nature such as correspondence about the entering of interest in the savings bank pass-book but certain items give some insight into social conditions in the eighties and nineties eg. memoranda dealing with the running of Newington Asylum, designs for grave railings, etc. In addition, the file gives a good picture of departmental procedure.
