Full description

The main reason for the establishment of this committee appears to have been the shortage of nurses at the time (see remarks by the Minister for Health, Minutes, p.1). This was due partly to fewer girls entering the profession, coupled with a relatively high resignation rate. The Committee (chiefly made up of doctors and senior nurses) was to examine, and suggest improvements in: working conditions, training and recruitment. Three sub-committees were subsequently formed to examine these areas. The volume includes minutes of meetings for the main committee and the three sub-committees.
