This series contains the files of the Board of Fire Commissioners and its predecessor, the Fire Brigades Board. The series consists of correspondence, conferences, reports, Select Committee reports, and press cuttings relating to such matters as the Board's administration, working conditions of employees, interstate conferences, union disputes and agreements, elections to the Board, manuals of instruction, fire equipment and its maintenance, and statements of expenditure and revenue. Of particular note are files pertaining to the war efforts, both the First, and in the main, the Second World Wars. Arrangement within some bundles is not strictly chronological.
