Full description

The minutes include decisions made by the Committee concerning Regulations drafted under both the Public Service Act, 1902 (Act No.31, 1902) and the Public Instruction Act, 1880 (Act 43 Vic. No.23), concerning teacher classification and examination.

The minutes also record decisions made by the Committee about teacher examinations and include approval of syllabuses, texts for study, and examination questions. The Committee considered appeals about results on a case by case basis. In recording the Committee's decisions about appeals, the minutes provide detail about individuals.

The Committee also looked at applications from individuals for exemption from the teacher examinations because of training and/or work experience outside of the Department's Teachers College: in New South Wales, other states or overseas. In recording the Committee's decisions about exemptions, the minutes provide detail about individuals.

The minutes also record general policy decisions made by the Committee such as whether subjects offered in courses run by other institutions, such as the University of Sydney, Technical Colleges, and the Kindergarten Union, were equivalent to the examinations set by the Department.
