Full description

Correspondence, notes, memoranda etc. from officials and private individuals in the colony respecting the issue of licences to extract guano. Included are: despatch dated 17 December 1879 from Sir Alfred Stephen (Lieutenant Governor 20 March-3 August 1879) to Lord Augustus Loftus (Governor from 4 August 1879), respecting new clauses in guano licences, increases in royalties, and returns to the Secretary of State (this despatch was embodied in Loftus' despatch No. 71 of 29 December 1879 to the Secretary of State); and letters relating to the request of agents of Gilbert Roberts, the lessee of the Purdy group, to prevent the American, Captain Webber of the "Sadie M. Caller", from extracting guano from these islands.

These papers were removed from a volume, with the cover title "Home Correspondence", volume 37, pp. 238-39 (4/1645).
